Emergency workers' trauma, PTSD focus of conference

Best practices for emergency workers who have experienced trauma or PTSD will be discussed at the Brandon & Area Suicide Prevention Implementation Network (SPIN) annual conference coming up in May.

The conference will highlight the challenges and opportunities faced by public safety personnel and provide research on mental health disorders in the industry.

Nicholas Carleton, a professor of clinical psychology at the University of Regina, will be coming to Brandon on May 1 for the conference. Carleton is also the scientific director for the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment.

The conference will bring together police, fire, EMS, military, correctional officers, 911 and crisis line operators, STARS and child welfare workers.
