Mental Illness Discussion

PORTSMOUTH -Seacoast Mental Health Center is joining with NH Theater Project Elephant in the Room series on Thurs., February 8 at 7:00 p.m., at the West End Studio Theatre, 929 Islington Street in Portsmouth for a presentation and discussion on Mental Illness.

Guest artist, Regi Carpenter will perform "Snap!" Her story of her commitment to a mental health institution at age 16 and how it was never discussed with her family until her mother was dying.

A panel discussion facilitated by Timothy Barretto, founder of the UNH Community Leadership program will follow on the stigma of mental illness and how it impacts the entire family. The panel will include Teddi Kenick-Bailey, Community Member; Regi Carpenter, Guest Artist; Dr. Andrew Kaplan, Seacoast Mental Health Center child psychiatrist; Jennifer Kinsey MSW, Seacoast Mental Health Center Adult Services therapist; and Maren Tirabassi, NH Humanities.

The presentation and panel discussion are free but contributions are welcome. Proceeds from this evening's event will help Seacoast Mental Health Center provide mental health services to those children, adolescents, and adult clients with limited financial resources.

Funding for the Elephant in the Room series was provided by the Seacoast Women's Giving Circle, NH Humanities, and Exeter Hospital.
