Nationwide campaign seeking stories from local veterans

The Patriot Ledger - 10/19/2019

QUINCY -- The Veterans History Project, a nationwide campaign that records people's stories from wartime, is seeking veterans from Quincy to be interviewed next month.

Interviews will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 on the third floor of Quincy College, 1250 Hancock St. Each session is transcribed by a court reporter and, along with original documents and photos, will be archived and preserved at the Library of Congress.

Any veteran who served in the military between World War I and the present, and who is no longer serving, is eligible to participate. The interviews are conducted in private rooms.

Michelle Keegan, a court reporter who brought the Veterans History Project to Quincy, said seven local veterans were interviewed in the city last year. This time around, she said, the campaign is hoping to talk to even more.

"The idea is that we can all learn, and try to understand a little better, all the sacrifices they've made and the realities of war," Keegan said.

Interview slots are limited and must be reserved in advance; call 617-817-2388 or email michellekeegan2010@hotmail.com to sign up. More information about the project is available at loc.gov/vets.
