Veterans Day parade takes place Saturday

Greenville Herald-Banner - 10/31/2019

Oct. 31--There will be classic cars, a marching band and plenty of our nation's heroes on hand during the Hunt County Veterans Day Parade on Saturday morning in downtown Greenville.

A complimentary lunch for veterans is also planned as part of the festivities.

The Disabled American Veterans of Hunt County Chapter in Greenville is hosting the parade again this year. The organization's John Turner said there will be a variety of entries in the line-up.

"The Navy Jr. ROTC will be there and we'll have the Greenville High School Lions Pride Marching Band playing," Turner said, adding the event will have a tie-in to the big fly-in that morning at Majors Field, the city of Greenville's municipal airport. "We'll also have a couple of flyovers."

Turner said the parade will follow its traditional route, with the line-up at the Farmers Market beginning at 9 a.m. The parade itself starts at 10 a.m. and heads west on Lee street, turns left on Wright Street, and follows Washington Street back to disperse at the Farmer's Market.

The DAV is looking for groups, businesses, and individuals to join in the event and is inviting floats, walkers, classic cars, church groups, schools, biker clubs, and sponsors to participate, along with volunteers to assist in helping organize the start of the parade.

"We're going to have some classic cars there" Turner said. "I just talked to Terry Thomas and he wants to bring his classic Corvair."

Additional information is available by calling Turner at 903-217-7127.

After the parade, all veterans are invited to attend a luncheon, compliments of Vitas Healthcare. The event is scheduled at Landon Winery, 2508 Lee St. Guests of veterans are also welcome for $10 per person, cash only.

Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by this afternoon by calling Turner or Natalie Haddad-farshi at 972-448-6560.
