Veterans Day programs slated for Aberdeen

Nov. 09--Veterans Day will be observed with programs in Aberdeen starting today.

Details follow:

Trinity Lutheran School

Today at 2 p.m., 923 S. Dakota St.

The program includes guest speaker Ron Gibson, a U.S. Marine veteran. Students will sing patriotic songs and thank-yous to soldiers, along with an armed forces medley.

Central High School

Monday at 10 a.m., 2200 S. Roosevelt St.

The program will begin with master of ceremonies Darvin Vetter, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 17, and the American Legion Color Guard. Music will be provided by the Aberdeen All-Schools Elementary Chorus, Aberdeen Symphonic Band, Central High School students and the Aberdeen Pipe and Drum Corp. The Rev. John Hisel will give the invocation. Other featured guests include Jan Vetter, Tom Perrizo, Jackie Omland, Ron Krogman, Mark Wolf and Truman Henry.

South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Monday at 2 p.m., 423 17th Ave. S.E.

The program will include a presentation of colors by the local VFW Post 17 and Ladies Auxiliary. There will be a welcome by Jodi Carlsgaard, principal. Readings and patriotic songs will be shared by students. The Rev. John Hisel, pastor and veteran, will be the guest speaker.

Quilts of Valor will be presented to the veterans. The quilts are given as thank-yous to area veterans.
