Edds gets RichmondCC scholarship in his name

The Laurinburg Exchange - 8/24/2021

Aug. 24—HAMLET — Pastor Michael Edds, the former pastor of Cross Pointe Church in Laurinburg, was recently honored by State Sen. Tom McInnis with the establishment of a scholarship in his name at Richmond Community College.

The honor was given to Edds for his distinquished leadership during his tenue in Laurinburg.

"I am is greatly honored and humbled by the establishment of this scholarship," Edds said. "It is his great desire that this scholarship will help provide the opportunity of hope for young people, who are striving to achieve the skills necessary for a successful life long career."

Under his leadership, he oversaw the construction of Cross Pointe's 14,000 square foot multi purpose facility. The church's goal was to not only provide a place of worship but provide a much needed community facility for the city. He established "Kid's Night Out" to provide at risk kids an alternative to gang culture, led community cleanup campaigns, and established "Prayer On The Square."

Edds also served as chaplain for the city police and the county sheriff's department, serves on the board of the Laurinburg Housing Authority, and is vice chairman of the Scotland County Reentry Council. Pastor Edds has been at the forefront of lobbying government to do more in regards to curbing crime, providing for recreational opportunities for youth, and to address the issue of flooding on many city streets. In the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, he raised funds to provide restoration grants to city residents who suffered loss.

Being a former school administrator in many different states, the Rev. Edds has worked to equip and encourage youth to pursue their career dreams through education. The Reverend Michael Edds Scholarship mirrors the RCC Working Scholarship, which helps those students and families who work while pursuing their degrees.
