Military fund aids struggling veterans with school expenses

Aug. 4—A program sponsored by the Military Family Relief Fund will aid qualifying military families experiencing financial difficulties with school costs for the new school year.

The Back to School Fund is offering military families $500 per child residing at home up to the age of 18 to help with school expenses. Students must be enrolled in school or a high school equivalency program.

Veterans must have an honorable, under honorable conditions or certain other than honorable discharge.

The deadline to apply for the grant is 4 p.m. on September 15, 2022.

Required documents include the application containing the applicant's general information and grant request, a W9 and direct deposit form (both with handwritten signatures), proof of child residency, a DD214 showing discharge info, the first page of the most recent bank statement for all bank accounts and evidence of income for applicant and spouse.

Household incomes cannot exceed two times the U.S. federal poverty guidelines.

There is a lifetime limit of $2,500.00.If the applicant has received previous funds, their grant amount may reflect that.
